Washing machine ruins floor. Help?

Our brand new (3months old) washing machine has leaked a number of times in the kitchen. I have called engineer and they are coming to fix it. My issue is it has ruined the laminate floor that we had put down, what is our standing on asking them to pay for that as well?
Hope someone can help and thank you in advance.

Sorry to say that I don't rate your chances here. Two reasons
1. Manufacturers are normally quite specific that they won't refund for 'consequent loss' - although I agree that it is worth a try, especially with a new machine
2. Laminate flooring in the kitchen?? Most laminate floorings state specifically that they are not suitable for kitchens or bathrooms - have you checked?
Having given you my version of the bad news (and I do hope I'm wrong!) it may well be that your ordinary household insurance will cover damage to the floor caused by a malfunctioning machine, especially if new- here's hoping that (unlike me!) you have insurance.....

Thanks jobbingmusician I'll have a read up one manufacturers booklets, just to check see if they mention it or not. As for the laminate floor it is one that is ok for kitchens so that should be fine.
Cheers for your reply0 -
We bought a washing machine from Comet a few years ago. They installed it and the first time we used it, it leaked all over the kitchen floor. We took photos etc and politely insisted that they compensated us for the cost of a replacement carpet. They did. Get evidence and quotes and write a firm letter. Good luck."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

I agree with. Crispy Ambulance
It depends who installed it if say comet or curry’s you have a claim against them, if you are insured and they say no pass it on to the insurance let them argue it, if you installed it it depends on where it leeks from your connection or the machine if the machine you have a claim against someone, get a free quote to replace or repair the damage and give it to all se who argues.0 -
I think you may be able to claim.
My friend noticed her laminate floor starting to warp, she realised it was the washer that was leaking. She found out that something had been chewing the rubber pipes.
Her 13 year old later admitted to sneaking her pet rat into the house, and it escaped.
The Insurance company tried to dry the floor out,but it didnt work,so they gave her a new floor.Member of the £2 savers club.£320

Thanks for everyones help, engineer comes today and as it seems that it is an internal problem with the machine hopefully they will replace floor. Would rather not claim on house insurance as we have got £100 excess but will have to if noone will pay out.0

********UPDATE*************
The Engineer came and said the problem was because it is cold fill only sometimes the pressure of the water, forces water out of the dispensed tray. anway as for the flooring he filed a claim for me on his laptop which automatically starts the claim process, it is either that or you ring them up. So fingers crossed it should get sorted. All that leaves is for me to ring round for quotes0
