replace out of date Norton with avast

I want to replace my out of date Norton with the free version of avast. Should I remove Norton first and then download avast, or does it not make a difference. I thought if I load avast when there is no other security on my pc it may be easier.

  • Download Avast, physically disconnect your PC from the internet (i.e. remove the cable) then remove Norton (there is a removal tool), restart your PC, install Avast, register for the free 12 month code, job done!

Good choice as well. I have been using Avast with no troubles for the last few years.

You need a decent firewall too
Sunbelt, Comodo and Zonealarm are the top 3

Probably a good idea to download the Norton removal tool before unplugging from the interweb thingy.

Just to add....there's no need to disconnect the PC from the internet. Traveller1981 is about 4 years out of date.

Uninstall it using the symantec removal tool available from symantec.com

Can you please explain that part Conor?

What happens if said computer has spyware on that norton hasnt recognised and then the norton firewall is removed to allow it to send a signal outwards?

Thanks everybody ! after 4 hours finally have everything working. I wish I had read the message re symantec removal tool available from symantec.com b4 starting.
Once I had the software installed the pc refused to boot, I went into panic mode, whenever I start these little tasks it always goes tits up, but looking really good now. Cheers for everyone's input !!!
