I Want - A Reliable Washing Machine

Options
So you really helpful people out there, which is the most reliable brand of washing machine - the sales are on and I am wanting to replace my old washer before it finally gives up the ghost.

Hopefully wanting something which has at least a 1200 spin, and something which will wash delicates without shrinkage.

A good star rating for wash would be great too!

  • All I would say is DONT buy a Dyson, in the last two years we have had the enginers out at least 10 times & eventually they gave us a new 1 but not holding my breath for this 1. on the other hand the indiset (i think thats how its spelt) we had prior to this lasted us about 6 to 7 years (we have 5 kids so LOTS OF USE) but not big enough. hope that helps on wot not to buy.

We have a Bosch and it has been very reliable and washes well. Also has bigger drum (6kg I think) so fewer loads.
  • Definately Bosch, I have had no trouble with my Logixx which is fantastic, they're not the cheapest on the market but they certainly are excellent quality.
The Logixx even allows you to pause the washer to add forgotten items and tells you what time the washing will be finished.
  • I bought a Hoover easy logic a couple of years ago but instead of getting it in a regular retailers I got it half price from our Local Comet Clearance Warehouse - Possil Park Glasgow. It has a dent in the side but as it's pushed in between units who cares. I figured at half price it was a better bet even if it didn't last all that well.
I know Comet have a clearance auction site online BUT I had watched items selling on that and it looked like it was rigged - when I emailed them re this they gave me a load of B*** S***. Better to see what you are getting anyway.
  • we have gone through 3 indesit washers in 18 months, all replaced my Comet i might add.

would'nt touch them with a very long barge pole.

Currently have a Samsung which has been trouble free. It is also Gauranteed (is that how you spell it?) for 2 years as standard.

If you have a LOT of cash then Miele are apparantley the best. But they are expensive
  • Hi , I have had zanussi machines and found them very reliable. My first zanussi was still working after 15 years and did not even have 1 repair, however , I believe electrolux make them now but retain the zanussi name. I bought another zanussi last year and it appears okay but whether it will last as long as the other one remains to be seen.
  • Thank you so much for your responses - I am not wanting cheap and nasty but at the same time I am trying for a bargain in the sales for a reliable make.

I have a feeling I have heard good things about Bosch before on this site, but was not sure it was the one being plugged as the most reliable.

Lets face it chilli_dog, how many of us do have loads of money to spend at this time of the year - Christmas is a very commercial and expensive time don't you think?!

Would love to hear from others regarding reliability on machines if anyone cares to comment.

I used to subscribe to Which! magazine and every time they did a washing machine test or a reliability test (which was quite often) Bosch came top.

If you can afford one, go for a Miele. Most models come with a 10 year warranty. Otherwise, John Lewis's own brand washing machines are highly recommended. They are made by AEG andcome with a 3 year guarentee.
