Littlewoods Catalogue fraud query

Right chaps, apologies if this isn't the right area for this (there doesn't seem to be a section for pay weekly options, so budgeting seemed apt).
I've been mulling it over for a couple of weeks, and now I've decided to see what the learned folk of MSE think.
I looked at my annual credit report file recently. It details a credit account with Littlewoods Home Shopping, upon which there were several late payments, but the debt looks as though it's been paid in full. I was instantly suspicious when I noticed my name was mis-spelled on the account, then I realised the given date of birth was my mothers. It was the correct address at that time, so it looks as though someone's used my name and mum's DOB to open an account. The account was set up and paid off in 1992 (as I was aged nine at that time, there's no way I could have gained credit) I mentioned it to another family member, who pointed out that a family 'friend' was once fired from Bhs for doing the same thing, so I do have a suspect.
My query goes thus: Will this have affected my credit rating? If so, who should I contact to have it removed from my file? Should I report it to the police as fraud despite the time lapse? It doesn't show up on my Experian report, but I'm guessing that's because it's more than six years old.
I don't know what to make of it, I'm narked that my name's been used like this but relieved I haven't lost any monies, AFAIK.

Why is an account from 1992 still on your credit file?0

That's what worries me, I have a feeling the account is still active (but clearly dormant) but I'm not sure how to go about dealing with it. I've never had a catalogue account of my own.Sealed Pot Challenge number 298, up yours HSBC!0
