because if mum goes down the whole castle of cards goes too

Sammy Kaye, good to see you back here on the forum! xxx

    Aint that the truth

I always find it funny that say for example there is a flu bug going round - well in this household

if ben gets it (hes 4.5years old) he sleeps all day, wants cuddles etc - thats fine as hes only a baby

if O (the boyfriend - hes 29!) gets ill, hes either in bed moping, playign xbox, playing computer and making his 'oh but im ill' demands for food/bath etc'. and generally gets things done for him

if I'M ill (im 24) I still have to make the beds, cook, clean, walk the dog, etc etc - theres no justice is there

Always gets me that you never see a 'sick' mum. Shes never bedridden being waited on by her OH/kids. Its always 'oh yeah im ill, but ill manage'. or 'yes ill have a rest after ive done the shopping/walked the dog etc'

I agree though that me time - even if it is sat on you tube is definately needed. I enjoy a soak in the bath although before i would spend an hour plus - now a soak is about 15 minutes and then im bored even if im reading.
Ive actually put some babysitting vouchers in my sisters christmas hamper too as shes only 21 and has a 3 year old and a one year old so she doesnt get much me time so if i have them once a month at least she gets some free time to herself.

and thanks for welcoming me back - ive been hiding over on nonnymouse a fair bit lately but will be popping back over here for a fair bit as have little one in school now and need to start saving for bfs 30th birthday present. he wants a sea kayak!
    Time to find me again

    YO WAY TO GO SISTER

Our aformentioned grandbabies christened him grumpy grandad and the name stuck [which is actually a lot more polite than the name his best friend gave him 'Grumpy old f**t'.

Mummysaver I am so pleased we made you smile, as the saying goes smile and the world smiles with you cry and you cry alone [unless you cry on this thread then we all rush forward with hugs and tissues] Our next no spend outing the
Grandbabies and I will be going on over the christmas hols a is NannaC's adventure, to play in our local woods set in an ancient gorge, which is about 5 mins walk form our house. When it is full of ice, frost, snow it is like an enchanted forest. We all ended up in the stream last year [all of 3 ins deep] and squelched our way home. Will file full report when mission has been completed

Before my elder GD was born, we were discussing names for family.

I'd always said I'd be 'Grandma', and my SIL (DH's sister) said that DH should be 'Grumps' - which most of the family (only exception probably being DH) agreed with :rotfl:

  • so GOOD to see you back sammykaye :j :j

    missed you loads

I so agree about the mum having to stay well but a word of warning here as most people younger than us older ones have not ever experienced the real flu. It is devastating, you really cannot move and you feel as though you are dying. You don`t have the energy to put one foot in front of another and you feel very very ill and weak. My advice is to get the flu meds in as well as having things in the cupboard that even a child can use for food. I see that flu has started its march around the uk. Yikes

I had real flu once with 3 little ones and it was hell, I have never forgotten it. A bad cold is nothing compared to the flu

I love to cook. I’m a bit basic most of the time and rarely do adventurous -must try and experiment a bit more, but DH seems to like everything I make so I’m happy and it saves us loads of pennies. All our bread is HM and I feel really smug (in the nicest possible way) because 1 big loaf costs around 45p -50p to make and it tastes loads nicer.

Getting my hair done is another luxury . I stretch out the gap between appointments as much as possible to keep the price down. I really can’t do without this treat, as I once tried to do it on the cheap and let DH loose on my locks. The result -‘The Lop-sided Look’ and an expensive trip to the hairdresser to repair the damage.

I can’t wait for our escapes to the caravan -they keep me sane. Not a luxury, because this is our only source of holidays. We take most of our food with us and keep on a really tight budget. We haven’t been abroad for 20 years -but we don’t miss it. Not only are we saving loads -we’re hopefully doing our bit for the environment as well.

Just love getting free film previews -they’re a real treat, as we really couldn’t afford to do the cinema very often. The price of the tickets is one thing though ….. BUT the price of the Popcorn etc.- well that’s quite another! It’s ludicrous! And it's a definate No No for us. Bring back the old days, when we had intervals during the films and the ice-cream person came round with their trays laden with goodies and I'm sure they were not such stupid prices -or am I just too old to remember.....

Finally -don't all breathe a sigh of relief. Stroking the dogs -what better way to relieve a stress filled day. I just love the way their eyes gaze back at you, so trusting, They love you no matter what and they don't care if your don't have much money. As long as they get dinner, a walk and are loved.

i have had flu once it was millenium new year and i couldnt get out of bed for 2wks husband had to help me to the loo and bath. I was voniting in a bucket as couldnt get to bathroom. all i ate was mash potato as couldnt eat.

hey i used to have bad colds and say i had flu but now i know what flu really is i make sure i have my flu jab - i have asthma and am a nurse so entitled to it free on both accounts. (no i dont get 2!!)
  • Sammykaye, so good to see you back and good to hear that you are keeping your chin up.

You're so right about 'flu kittie. You don't stand and tell someone you have the 'flu, you're flat on your back - for days. It must be the most wrongly used word in the English language and I get so irritated when people tell you they have 'flu when they have a heavy cold. A heavy cold is not much fun either but it is NOT 'flu.

Right, I'm off my hobby horse now and send hugs to anyone who does have flu.

I can vouch for that - having had flu myself before now.

Actually my biggest treat is one that costs me nothing - well, after the initial outlay anyway;) - a really comfy bed with loads of bedding on it - bliss....

I also like a walk in the country somewhere nice....and the fresh air to breathe that comes with it (as opposed to the diluted car fumes that passes for air in my urban environment). So nice to be able to take a deep breath for once...no wonder I see the silver lining to the current economic climate......
  • I was furious yesterday, sitting talking to one of my 'new mums' on the ward when a pile of visitors arrived. One said "I won't kiss you I've got flu" . Well of course she hadn't got flu or she wouldn't be there but I gave her a good telling off for bringing germs into the hospital.

"But she's my sister, I wanted to see the baby" was the excuse......... have people no sense at all. Some of our babies are very small and poorly and a nasty cold could be the last straw to their system!!

    OK rant over!!
