Am I right in thinking scouse is tater ash/stovies/corned beef stew?
    BB
Erm - no -scouse is nuffin like corned beef stew - dunno wot tater ash or stovies is - recipe below - from a Liverpudlian - our nickname is also 'Scousers' ! My scouse recipe was given to me by an old lady - ok - use 3/4 lb mince, 1 onion chopped, carrots & celery chopped - put in large pan more than 1/2 full water, bring to boil, then simmer 1 1/2 hrs, then put in 2 large potatoes - peeled & sliced thickly and simmer for another 1/2 hour till they are soft. You can bet every 'Scouser' has a different variation on this recipe. Some use neck of lamb chops, some do a version called 'Lobscouse' = no meat, and a friend's mum used to make 'ScousePie' when we were little - basically pan of scouse - made into small pies with just a top crust. Serve with either red cabbage or I like it with brown sauce. You can flavour it with brown stock cubes whilst cooking - like I say - everyone will have their own version. Yum Yum - I love scouse - do a large panful and freeze - great for cold nights - especially after coming home from work :D

Geee...an offer....but you're right....we dont live in t'same area....darn it...you just knew there would be a snag to that plan didnt you.....and after that comment earlier from another "poster" to the effect of probably better pickings in "posher" areas.....errrr....she may be right on that one......and I've only noticed the local homeless people dumpster-diving in this area (mind you - 'tis true there need is greater than ours and all that).....shucks...coulda been a nice social MSE thing to do - you, me and Silver Charming (to show us the ropes). I don't think anything has been deliberately ruined or locked away in my area either - as far as I can see. I've seen shopworkers sitting having a smoke break in fact whilst someone dumpster dived in front of us - so I guess that shows a bit of compassion on their part that they werent bothering themselves about it (or possibly they couldnt be a**ed to do so - but I'd like to hope it was a bit of compassion).

Well Catarina -- I think Mardatha has adopted the role of MSE old-style "class clown";) :rotfl: - hmmmm...but I bet she'd be up for a bit of dumpster-diving with Moany Moany and me!;) Its okay Mardatha - we'd just get you to hold the torch and keep lookout for us......

It was the bit about she'd know she was in BIG TROUBLE if yelling for mum produced results that nearly had me spluttering my dinner all over my p.c.:D

I don't know how old Mardatha is, but can you imagine the surprise of any young cop investigating who is rummaging in the bin and finding 'ladies of a certain age' - I would simply flash my bus pass and smile!!!!!!

Pass me my hoody .... :rotfl:

    oh Caterina, thats HORRIBLE..
I am yelling at the tv here and the OH has given me a telling off :) It's a report on bbc Scotland about this big gas leak in Kelso, they think it will take 3 days to get it fixed. The reporter just went into a room with a family + giggling schoolkids and dramatically announced that "the whole family are huddled in the living room, round a single electric fire"... Well wooopy do !! What did we do when we were young ? Before everybody had central heating ? Did we die of overcrowding or hypothermia ? Noooooo ! Godsake !!!

I'm with you here mardatha, people can be pathetic can't they.My kids grew up with just an electric fire in the living room and it never hurt them.Me thinks this new generation is just a tad bit soft.
Since doing the "not putting the heating on challenge" I've realised just how much better I feel without it and since I turned it on on Monday for the first time we've actually only needed to use it for a total of 2 hours since we can't stand the heat.We seem to have acclimatised, something I realised when I noticed my husband wearing only a short sleeved shirt for work when usually he's shivering while he's wearing his lambswool sweater over the top.
We are sleeping so much better and my OH does'nt have any of his allergies this winter, when usually he's plaqued by rhinitis as soon as the heating goes on.
My mum is 85 and has never had central heating,(she refuses to)just a gas fire in the living room. She's as fit as a lop and does'nt take any medication and never complains about the cold, just says what can you expect it's winter.Wrap up.I think I'm going to adopt this attitude from now on.

Woman in my office constantly complains that it's cold. Turns the heating up full whack, in every room, even when it's just her in I think.
Saying this she just spent over £100 odd on 2 jumpers  despite her husbands hours being cut and takes days off work to go shopping, or books dentist appointments for like, midday.

Sliver lining, I get extra hours and alittle extra pay for my troubles. Badside is I haven't had my normal wednesday morning sleep in in about 3 weeks. I digress!
