I often wonder around Bank Holidays...harassed customers piling their trolleys SIZE=1]& credit cards[/SIZE because they 'are having people over' is one thing, but I've yet to bump into someone getting a solitary pint of milk for the cat because they are doing the visiting :rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

I must admit to looking at other peoples shopping and having a little wonder about why they chose what they chosen. I usually give them the benefit of the doubt by thinking "oh it must be a birthday party or something". Yes - I probably am a little smug... but they probably look at mine and think "poor thing... she can only afford reduced items"!!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

My husband cringes with embarrassment because our trolley is full of Sainsburys Basics plain orange labels. But I think I'm getting just as good stuff at a much lower price so nananana ! (he comes from Edinburgh. They're all dead snooty in Edinburgh. LOL !!

our tesco shopping was delivered last monday as usual by a driver I've not seen before. One of the bags broke and he was kindly helping to get all the items (far too many in one bag) and he commented that not many people buy as much value stuff as we do and pay to get it delivered! I thought he was a nice bloke till then - I didnt reply to him as I couldnt guarantee it would have been polite!
Im not embaressed buying value range items - we have a budget, two adults, two aged 5 and under and only one full time wage.:)Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
No - I was't intending to sneer at all
Apologies for any offence - I'm sure that everyone who knows me will know that I didn't intend any...and if I've touched a raw nerve with someone else ...very sorry:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I have been following this thread with great interest and can remember my Nan being able to make a meal out of the most random of items, stating that she had learnt to do this during the war and she was quite inventive at times! I also remember my Mum telling me that my Nan would often go without so that her two daughters could eat, I'm sure many parents did this during the war. I was wondering what people think as to the likely rise in VAT, I am convinced it is going to be increased, what will happen to the food prices then, let alone anything else!
Over the years I, and i'm sure many others, have been last in line for food - I've always joked that poverty has kept my weight under control0 -
You can get some good stuff in the value ranges - Sainsburys basics brown sauce (about 39pence for big bottle?) is just as nice as the top brands! And when doing an online shop I tend to check the basics/value ranges first before going for the well-known brands. The trick is to buy the best quality you can at the cheapest price and turn it into something that looks and tastes really expensive - something I think many people on this forum are very skilled at by now! Perhaps, in this thread, we ought to set a challenge - how to create something luxurious out of very little? One life - your life - live it!0

Hi guys,
I'm a bit late into the dicussion about austerity britain/wartime rations - been away from my comp for a few days. I'm sure that some people did die as a indirect result of malnutrition - unfortunately it's still happening. The Black Report in 1980 highlighted the huge link between health, poverty and life chances, and the Health Divide reported further in 1987. Since then reports through Acheson to the Rowntree Foundation are still saying the same thing - too many people in this country have their life chances seriously impaired by poverty. If you google poverty/life chances you'll throw up some seriously interesting reading.

Another sweeping generalisation!
I would imagine all Sainsbury shops will be busy this weekend due to the triple points offer0 -

So that's where my extra poundage has come from - its a direct result of becoming better off since paying off my debts0
