I've felt totally incapitated and so frustrated, even though I've have had back trouble for 15 years and should be 'used' to it, I hate to be so useless, it gives me too much thinking time, which is not so good. Anyway, at least I managed to do a bit of cooking today albeit slowly.
Sorry to hear about your bad back - may I suggest, if you can afford it, you consult a chiropractor. I have had a bad back on and off for 30 years and now regularly see one to keep me mobile. I have never slipped a disk, but have on occasions had back spasms along with my ongoing condition and they have been able to get me up and moving relatively quickly (certainly within a week).Initially they should take an xray to see what the 'damage' is before treating you. PM me if you want more info.0 -
So many people with bad backs
Hope you get more sympathy than No2 does at times
Both No2 & me muvva [a diabetic] are the type of people who smile sweetly, nod & agree to everything when confronted with any kind of "authority" so I go to all their appointments too; then they can ask me what is actually going on as we leave the officeBut it annoys me when people say things like; "Well..doesn't look like there's much wrong!" or "A little bit won't hurt!" even after we've explained all the medical reasons against their 'well-meaning advice' :wall: I'm all for folk expressing an opinion but when you have solid evidence against taking it, why do they insist on repeating it over & over again!

Not sure if many of you ahve heard of this site but its great for checking out the big stores latest bargians and special offers.
http://www.madaboutbargains.co.uk/offers/Off-Your-Trolley.htm
Just use the various options to search what you are looking for. Also remeber that some pages only list 25 items per page and you have to go to the next page to see more bargains
Hope this helps0 -

Hello leed thanks very much for the advice. I think I may well have to consider that option. Actually, I have an appointment with my GP this afternoon (I am well known to them ha ha!) Having submitted over the past years to CT Scans, spinal manipulation, injections of cortisone
tens, acupuncture, physio and various other treatments. Usually I can keep on top of things and know just how far I can go before I end up in trouble, but I managed to forget myself a couple of weeks ago and lifted something too heavy and awkwardly......ouch! I'll see how things go.
Hope everyone else is ok and having a nice day.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Just had really good news - makes a change!! Our new house is on a water meter and with four kids the bills are estimated to be massive over twice our last place. I called to ask if they would take the meter away (wasnt sure how long it had been in) and they told me that it was not possible to remove it but as we have four kids and are in receipt of tax credits we are eligilble for the capped rate scheme, basically they cap the rate and if we use less we pay less but if we use more then the cap rate is applied, means that we will pay less than we were paying.
Its such a relief because we are paying alot more rent and council tax here, the idea of a water meter was really scary, have even been taking my washing to my mum house to try bring bill down.

I am looking on the bright side today! Since we are so skint we are going to spending a lot of time in the house for the foreseable future I have decided to finish off all the wee jobs that are still outstanding. When we were flush we bought a lot of DIY materials that we started using then our enthusiasm ground to a halt. That way I will be kept busy and will end up with a fabulous house at the end of it! Going to focus on the kitchen and bathroom and my family have kindly said that my xmas money from them can be used to buy the final bits and pieces for those two rooms.
Spinning my negative into a positive!
Thats brilliant, for your final touches don't forget to look on Freecycle, and if you do have to buy check out if there are any local auctions near you that hold general sales, most auction houses tend to do house clearances and will put less valuable items into their general sales, [that is where a lot of regular car booters get their stock from, so you are effectivly cutting out the middle man]0 -
and can I put in a mention at this point that if anyone wants to chat without the restrictions placed - one way or another - on MSE about Old Style topics - I'm sure there will be a warm welcome over on a little mini-forum that MSE Old Stylers have started up recently.
There are about 200 MSE Old Stylers over on the Nonnymouse Forum
http://nonnymouse.forumotion.net/forum.htm
and its a Forum that is completely independent of MSE and where people are completely free to chat about what they want.
I felt that Kittie would probably be happy with me putting this in at this point in the circumstances - so any Old Style hints/chats that anyone feels they want to put on Old Style Board on MSE but isnt sure whether it will be acceptable - theres an Old Style "home" over there.:D0 -
Hello
A quick update! I roped my OH into helping and the kitchen is looking better. I put the items I would like on a gift wish list and my family are going to choose from there what they would like to give me as a gift. It has made me feel a lot better about the situation and it means I am de-cluttering too! Thank you all for your support!
I had thought of the blogging idea but decided it was not for me. I hope though that someone here takes on the idea as I am sure lots of people would enjoy reading it and it would keep the blogger on track!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I wouldn't worry too much about the water meter unless you are constantly having baths with loads of water or each of you having a long shower every day. When we moved 7 years ago the house had been fitted with a water meter and although we had a power shower, washing machine and a dishwasher we ended up paying considerably less for water than we had in our previos house. Admittedly I was paranoid to start off with always turning taps off, catching cold water before the hot came through and using to fill up the toilet cicern but once we had the first bill I relaxed alot. Now I don't worry about using water although we defiitely don't waste it.
What I would say is be careful about what and how much you use without compromising health and you may be very pleasantly surprised.0 -
It's strange isn't it that some people have quite a knack of imparting news to the general public and making it sound like their doing us a favour. I hear today that plans are afoot to get credit card companies to make their terms and conditions fairer. Fair enough. However, included in these plans, it seems that the minimum monthly repayment could be increased from 2% to 5%. In effect meaning that if the minimum payment per month is now £40, this could rise to £100. Surely if people could afford to pay more off their Credit Cards then they would do so voluntarily -who really wants to be locked into paying off these loans for years and years. I just can't see how enforcing a higher minimum repayment will help hard pressed families, indeed it might even mean that they now cannot meet the minimum repayment, meaning more charges. Am I missing something?
Must stop listening to the news!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin
