we have had to give up the one important thing to me and that is visiting my parents who live 400 miles away ,it's my dads birthday today and we couldnt go to visit as we usually do .
my aunt died last month and we didnt have the money to go to the funeral .
so the credit crunch has hit us hard as we are only just meeting our bills every week ,
the one thing i am thankful for is that we have no debt other than our mortgage ,so i suppose in that aspect we are one of the lucky ones
Tatooed bum - so sorry to hear about the problems you've been having recently (((((hugs))))) to you both. I'm sure that your dad would understand about your situation and why you couldn't visit him as you normally do.
Hope things start to turn around for you both very soon.0 -
Tomatoes on windowsills ! I'm trying the artic or siberian ones this year cos they are suitable for a short growing season. If they can grow in siberia then they can grow up here !
Did anybody else get horrendous hellish wind last night ? And its snowing now..0 -
Cornball......If you want a new book that you can't get at the library use www.readitswapit.co.uk. Get it for the price of the postage and still have your takeaway!0

I'm sorry too, Tb, that really is horrible.
Well, I've started reading this website. I am saving all my receipts. I am making a bucket of coal last twice. We are going out much less often than before. We are not having a conservatory. We are doing our own decorating. We would like to overpay the mortgage but I haven't looked into it yet.
Basically, we are just having a good think about everything and asking, "Do we need it?"0 -
I've never had wind like that ever. I cant believe wind can make a noise like that ! A lot of tiles lying in the garden today. Need get a son to come home and go up in the loft to see what's happening.0

It did make me think back to how I had needlessly been spending money only a few months ago on shop bought sandwiches - but it seems that people are slowly realising what a waste this is. I liked reading the comments at the bottom (have they been reading this board?) :rotfl:
I've said it before, but Old Stylers will rule in the post Credit-Crunch world :j DH and I have reduced our outgoings, and still have a great (though frugal) life. We're hoping to weather the current crisis without any further changes :T
I'll add this to the existing thread on how we're coping as things get tougher.

Fletch, I'm more than happy to offer any advice you may need, PM me if you need anything.
Today I've fetched the old whistling kettle from the shed and cleaned it up. It's now sat on top of the woodburning stove. The stove wasn't designed to cook on and I'm not convinced that we'll get the kettle boiling but if it warms the water enough for washing up I'll be happy. I did have a go at cooking pasta last week and it just about coped with that, I think spuds would take hours though! I figure I may as well harness that heat whenever I can.0 -

Are you on the West Coast? Over on the East (Edinburgh) it was fine but I saw all the severe weather warnings on the met office site and heard that it was quite bad in the Outer Hebrides (shops closed early etc).."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
