  • Hi :hello::hello::hello:, just like to say what a great thread :D really enjoying reading all your great posts, i have also been trying to become more MS, since joining this site have realised how much money i spent, on non-essentials & well rubbish really, i am lucky enough not to be in debt (only thru the grace of god!) my husband will not buy anything if we don't have the cash for it, (so that means saving!) ive never had a credit card which everyone (shops, banks etc..) finds a bit strange! i was in debt when i was younger late teens-early-twenty's but my good ole mum used to help me out:o she was always great with money,( wish i was more like her) but now with my own family i've had to take responsibilty more, so i always shop around, compare prices and shop in sales, i still have take-aways and enjoy a drink but im not as frilvilous, as before. I love this site what with all your great tips & the absolute wealth of knowledge you all have, i find it all amazing, how those who are in debt are honest and are trying their best to get out of it:T . You are all truly great:T:T, sorry for the long-winded post but this site is keeping me on track, so im not feeling the pinch so much with all your wonderful ideas:T:T:T:T

Really sorry to hear of those who have been made redundant - hope everything works out OK for you.

Unfortunately, though, there is actually no time limit to when people have to be be re-employed - the 6 month time limit is a myth (I work in employment law). The only stipulation for re-hiring after redundancy is "a reasonable time" A company could, for example, make people redundant, then get a new contract 2 weeks later and have to get more workers, but they would not have to ask those who had been made redundant. This would be classed as reasonable by an employment tribunal as circumstances in business do change.

Bearer of even more bad news (very sorry!!!!). My OH owns a small catering wholesalers and the policies of our wonderful government have just kicked in big time. A large proportion of our food is imported from Europe, and what with the Euro/Pound exchange rate being what it is now - all of the prices have just gone sky high this week - chicken & bacon have already gone up by over 20% and we have been told will go up again next week. Can only be a matter of time before this filters through to consumer prices. I am going to stock my freezer as much as I can.

Hi :hello::hello::hello:, just like to say what a great thread :D really enjoying reading all your great posts,

Hi Sweetpeanut. Thanks for posting. Just a thought, as you seem to prefer a non-standard font, would you enlarge it a little to match the size of everyone else's font? I have difficultly reading your posts, which we will all want to read. Anyone with sight problems or dyslexia might have to miss what you have to say if they have to crank the zoom level up, then back down again just to read one post. I don't know if anyone else is finding this a problem, I know that my screen makes everything fairly small but if I up the zoom level to 125% I lose the scroll bar at the side.

it's a lot smaller than most posts -- I didn't find it easy to read either.

Thanks for the warning about the chicken and bacon prices Maxjessdru. We don't use a lot of bacon, but I like to have some and don't at the moment. I've already had to cut back to the cheapest mince (padded out with lentils), but chicken is our second most used meat and I can't afford a huge increase on that :(

If you click on 'Post Reply' or 'Quote', there's a drop down box at the top of the message window, next to a letter A with a thick line beneath it. Mine currently says 2. Because the font on this site is in HTML (web page language) the font sizes go from 1-7. Size three would make your font lovely and legible. If not, leaving an extra space between the lines (as has happened automatically where you have put your smilies) makes it easier to follow. There doesn't seem to be a way to change the font size if you click on 'Quick Reply'.

If you want to change the font itself, you need the long window, next to the font size box. You seem to be typing in Arial Narrow atm, the default is Verdana.

That's odd. I don't know how to overcome that. One for the MSE team, perhaps?

((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to all facing redundancies. DH is due to retire in June so that is one problem we don't have at the moment but we had our dose in the early 1990's. When it happened my dear old Dad who had also had his share said 'You still live, love' and somehow you do but I think it's tougher now than it was then and my heart goes out to you all.

The diminishing interest rate is playing havoc with our retirement income so I'm eagerly soaking up all the hints and tips on this board. I've always been fairly OS :money: but it's encouraging to hear of other's ideas.

Just keep on rubbering the chicken, stretching the mince and making the beef go twice round the block.

    Long live lentils.

    Bella.
