Cahoot cheque processing

I recently had two big cheques sent to Cahoot - big mistake.
One was sent on Thursday. The cheque was credited on the following Tuesday.
The second one was sent 1st class on Monday and credited the following Monday!
I am not talking about cheque clearing times. Is Royal Mail really that bad or were the cheques sitting in a post bag at cahoot before they were processed?
If usually have cheques posted directly to Coventry BS. They are usually credited a day after the cheque has been posted, at most 2 days.
