  • good idea for holland use either keycamp or eurocamp , fairly cheap but only have 1 or 2 sites in holland., , tents are already up and have all you need oven fridges ect, price includes ferry travel .
car hire renting from uk for travel in europe is very expensive best use own car , but if not possible go online and hire car from calais much cheaper than say hiring from herts/avis in uk as insurance to high , the same companys are cheaper on the continent , calais to holland is 3 hours drive depending on destination, hope that helps
  • We have 4 kids aged 9 to 5 months. We have been 3 times to the same place in Holland called Duinrell / Wassenaar. It's an amusement park and leisure pool and campsite all in one. It is situated in the town of Wassenaar, within cycling distance of The Hague, Scheveningen (beach resort) and Leiden. It's about an hour by train to Amsterdam too.
The amusement park is suitable for tiny ones and teenagers. The leisure pool boasts the longest total water slides in the world and some of them are particularly scary.
You can let teenagers go the the amusement park or leisure pool and enjoy the sun in your caravan or tent, knowing they will not want to leave the park.
You will find tents and mobiles with these UK companies : Canvas (cheapest), Keycamp and Eurocamp. However, a Dutch company SELECTCAMP (https://www.selectcamp.com or https://www.selectcamp.nl) will do much cheaper prices. They now have a UK subsid. who you can pay in sterling, but more details are available on the Dutch website. You arrange your own ferry crossing - or you could even travel there by air or train as a car is unnecessary there. Another option is Duinrell's own holiday homes (https://www.duinrell.nl).

I would say that you could get a 7 day holiday in a mobile with Selectcamp at the beginning of August for £650 (with ferry crossing from Norfolkline) or with Canvas for around £950.

  • DUINRELL,DUINRELL,DUINRELL !!! (Did you get that) - that is my reply when I ask my children where they want to go on holiday! If you do a search on here , there was quite a lot of information about it earlier in the year.

Agree, can add my vote for Duinrell, it's excellent for children. We all liked it a lot ( been twice with Eurocamp when the boys were in their early teens). The amusement park on site has some more gentle rides for your six year olds as well as the much scarier ones ( ie that mum wouldn't go on ! ) for your teenager. ( I wouldn't go on the water tunnels in the pool either but OH and sons did repeatedly). We went at Easter, tulip bulbs are out then too. Food shopping in town close enough to walk to as well as shop on site. Also site close enough to Amsterdam, Haarlem etc for sightseeing ( we used excellent train to Amsterdam ) and within easy reach of nice walks and a beach ( if you can get the kids away from the water park and the amusement park for long enough that is! )
  • A PS on my last posting about Duinrell and the best time to go.

We have been during Dutch school holidays (early May) and also at Easter time and found it very busy in early May. Our neighbours (with 2 teenagers and an 8 year old, just to prove how good it is for all ages) went twice this year - in the last 2 weeks of August, they found the park really quiet, maybe the Dutch schools had gone back, but during our October half term, they found it much busier.

We are definitely going again and next time I'll consult Duinrell's own prices as they list the Dutch school holidays next to them, so we can avoid times when Dutch andUK school are all on holiday.

we have been to holland twice now...lovely place. lots to do..and english is widely spoken .
we stayed with https://www.landalgreenparks.com They feature in a number of ferry company brochures and hoseasons...but its cheaper and easy enough to book direct. They have a range of sites from very busy active places to much quieter...much like centre parks...houses in woods with large pool complex/restuarants etc. We paid £700 for two weeks last july for a three bedroomed house. We flew easyjet...£50 each and hired a car (£300 for fortnight with Avis)

Things to do....open air museum at arnhem is good...there is a seaworld type place called Dolfinarium...Eftling is excellent theme park...there is another theme park (name escapes me) in the north. Amsterdam of course...fabulous childrens science museum there called Nemo...

Have fun...we'll definitely go back..went when kids were under 8 and again last year when they were teenagers and it suited well both times.
And distances are very short in holland...if you are nearer east then trips in to germany are very easy. I beleive there is a bit of footie being played this summer lol

  • Thanks Dogrose - I've looked at the LandalGreenparks website and it seems good for all ages. Which park did you stay in?

we've stayed in heideheuval and stroembek (spelling is very bad...)Both were in the east near Arnhem...because we wanted to go in to germany. They are quieter parks...but I know they do busier ones too...stroembek had a lovely pool..heideheuval was smaller but at the time our kids were littler and it suited us better. Depends whether you are looking for onsite entertainment like durinell does...or off site which would be more suitable for Landal. My kids are not in to kiddie clubs or crowds etc. They just like a nice pool and somewhere to kick a ball around..Last summer they were teenagers so in to theme parks...took them to movieworld in germany and eftling in holland...they loved them both. Eftling was their favourite though. We also did a river cruise from germany to arnhem :)
    Families are different, arent they?
As I said before some of the parks feature in the hoseasons brochures...but its literally half price to book direct. Landal give 40% off second week...hoseasons dont. Houses themselves are good standard...all have a little private garden not overlooked, with loungers etc....and the tv has english channels!
