I made my first lot of butter today WOW!!!! I made it using my kenwood chef, and it certainly wont be the last time I ever do it either. Thanks for the tips0

I've not bought any butter or margarine since, this is so simple and you get pride in saying you made it yourself....no matter how easy it is.0

I'm with you mummysdragon. It took me ages to get round to making my own, and when I did I couldn't believe how EASY it is.
I make quite a lot in one go (usually 2l of cream), and freeze it in ramekins. Each ramekin holds about 4oz.
I also make garlic butter, which I freeze in much smaller amounts. Absolutely yummy.0 -
I'm def going to try this, I've searched the thread but has anyone tried the breadmaker on slow mix?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

I have not tried the breadmaker on slow myself, although the Morphy Richards one I have is not the fast bake. I am at present doing a granery loaf..yummm. Later it will be hot cross buns to have with my homemade butter.
The only problem I have had is when the cream turns solid all the butter milk spilling out over the edge of the bowl, I have used a t towel and also tried cling film, but still it seems to spill. I have not got a splashguard on my mixer yet, and have held back from investing in one as most people say a t towel works better.
Didn't know you could freeze the butter and adding garlic yayayayaya THANKS
Also I add low salt but only after this has turned to butter that way I dont make a salty buttermilk and can use this in my coffee yummmy.0 -
Hello :hello:
I made lots of butter yesterday from reduced cream and now have lots of buttermilk. Does anyone have a recipe for soda bread? Or any other buttermilk recipies (apart from scones which I've already done!)
Thanks :beer:0 -
As cream has been reduced in my little independant supermarket.... 500ml for 15p... I decided to bring this thread back to life.
I don't have a jar big enough to shake the whole amount in one go so I'm going to use a 4pint milk carton.
I only picked up the cream at the last minute, not really having any idea what to do with it when 'butter making' sprung to mind.
Now I wish I'd bought more....I think a return visit tomorrow afternoon is required.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I have just made by first block of butter which is nice however I feel would be improved by adding salt. So I did...
The results were disastrous, I turned this very creamy butter into creamy butter with little and frequent salt patches!
I mixed it in using the wooden spoon I used to shape it but it applies the salt ineffectively.
Can anyone give me some advice as to add the salt to my butter to give even taste?
Thanks ever so much,
Hope you know how to solve my problem!0 -
I don't know if you have had a chance to read through this thread, but there was a link earlier mentioning a 'cooking for engineers' site. The making better article is well presented, with pictures of butter being made in a Kitchen Aid mixer.
At the end, it mentions how and when to flavour your butter - garlic, salt etc
