Young, dumb and full of trojans

A few years back, with a student loan in hand, and not a lot on the brain, I fell for one of these ebay auctions for a CD, packed with hilarious this and super-duper-programs-that, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. Ordering 80 of them, I dreamed of selling them on at an absolutely vomit-inducingly high profit margin. Then I got bored. And now its three years later.

So, in my new decluttering mode, I was going to try and make some dosh on them on ebay. HOWEVER, being the clever (and hunky, and suave, and modest....) guy I am, I decided to run one of the CD's through a virus checker. Unsuprisingly, the thing was riddled with 'trojans' (for those non-technologically minded people, thats a bad thing!). So.... I'd feel really pants about selling them to some unsuspecting victim, but dont really want to bin them.

What uses are there for 80 unusable CD's then? Is it worth trying to ebay them as "Funky Drinks Coasters" or trying to create some elaborate mirror and selling it as art? I dont want to keep them in the house, but I'd still like to make a few pennies out of them.

Your suggestions?

Make sure if you sell tham as coasters etc that you scratch the disk to make it unusable.

Can you not rip the funny stuff off the cd? Repair all the trojans and make a new batch of cds. Or send via email

and post them your CDs. They'll take your cd's to the uks only cd recycling plant.
  • Wow, awesome idea there bobadobadodaaadobododbaodbodado (sp?). I'm an absolute stickler for recycling - cant stand to see paper or plastic thrown away - used to drive my housemates mad... especially when I slapped them round the head for throwing empty milk bottles away :p . Also good to know that I finally have a use for AOL demo CD's :rotfl:

Seriously though, this company sounds good. Just hope they're not scammers.
  • You could always sell them under 'altered art' in the craft section - us crafty girls can do magical things with paint and stuff on old CDs.

If the safe stuff's a few years old it won't be much use now so looks like cutting your losses & recycling is the answer.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Thanks, that's a useful site - there's even a couple of ideas that I could probably sell if I took the time to 'make' the things.

This time next year.... I'll be a million... CD's lighter!
