You can get a lot of things for free. Type freebies in the search box, or try dumpster diving too.
Main things are clothing, AOs Skins shapes, buildings, land.
There are things you can pay for, but if you look hard enough you can find them for free instead.Financial Aims for 2012:

Go to freelance dancing clubs, where you keep 80% of your tips and don't need a application form. You can 'escort' there too, if that's your scene, although you will need to know where to take them and always get your lindens up front.
If you just ask the dancers these questions, a lot of them will e very helpful and advise you, some may even give you some clothes, skins etc. that they longer use for free. That;s how I got started.Financial Aims for 2012:

you can have as many free houses as you like, but you'll still need to pay for land, either bought or rented, if you ever want to live in them..0 -

this i know
there is a "free" land area though - the group name escapes me - but you can build on that with a set number of prims per person, but the downside is that it's reset every 2 weeks.
it's decent enough if you want a temporary place and don't mind re-doing everything every fortnight.
i started out there initially in one of the high rise flats - although there's loads of bizarre things up in the clouds ..0 -
