Extended Warranty

We are looking to buy a plasma screen tv, but the extended warranties in the shops look so expensive. Are there any independant companies on the internet that offer tv warranties cheaper? I have had a look on the insurance section on here, but it only covers home and contents and not warranties. I know John Lewis offer a 5 year warranty, but the HD ready tv's start at 2K which is a lot more than I wanted to spend.

I never take out these extended warranties. They are all too expensive.
I know I take a risk of a big payout now and again but by the time you have paid the government tax and the company's profit you must lose out in the end with these things.

I seem to have misplaced my copy of "The Money Diet" but there is info in Martins book about extended warranties and facts/figures about them.

I think the moneysaving approach is to self insure and put the money you would pay to Comet etc into a savings account to pay for the unlikely event of it happening.

I bet the extended warranties on Plasmas are very pricey.

Might take a look on the comet website actually.

you could also try domestic and general, if you are lashing out over a grand for a telly then maybe £100 to extend the warranty for 2 years isn't so bad?
