I phoned around all the local vets for 5 miles to compare prices

We bought a kitten on Sunday blue cream Persian.

I will post a picture.

Because of our experience with our regular vets I phoned around all the local vets for miles to compare prices for neutering & micro-chipping & the bi-annual flea jab & the annual booster with leukaemia.

The prices (with 5 miles) varied between.

Neutering
£49.42 to £77.36

Micro-chipping (at the time of neutering)
£15.99 to £32.50

Bi-annual flea jab
£25.73 to £51.96

Annual booster with leukaemia
£33.90 to £58.97

Huge differences:eek:

    DD found a kitten, we showed it to him, he gave me the debit card;)

    Can you believe the variation in those prices. Most of them are double the cheapest place.

    That is terrible and they know that if you (you, as in the public not you personally) are a responsible owner that you have to get these things done :eek:

    I hope the cheapest was your most local.

    Congratulations

    looking forward to the photos :D

    We still use the old farm vet and I know from talking to folk ours is so cheap. An 9pm visit on a Saturday night for dog to be put under and wound stitched in his leg came in at £36.

    The stories I have heard lead be to believe it could be upto 20x that down south.:eek:
  • around the london area (and esp. surrey!) the vets are certainly expensive!! unfortunately for you we havn't opened a branch of YourVets in surrey (yet!) - our nearest one is in essex - but I've put in our prices from our birmingham clinics below to give you an idea of how much extra you are being charged by those nice south east vets!!

    Neutering
    £49.42 to £77.36
    YourVets= £30 (inc collar & 2x hill's i/d pouches)

    Micro-chipping (at the time of neutering)
    £15.99 to £32.50
    YourVets=£12.50

    Bi-annual flea jab
    £25.73 to £51.96
    we don't offer this to clients unless they specifically ask for it, as some pets can suffer flea allergic dermatitis with this product, we find that frontline is both cheaper, easier to use, and more effective

    Annual booster with leukaemia
    £33.90 to £58.97
    YourVets=£20

    :cool:

    congrats Mrs E! can't wait to see the pic :)

    you may have read my post about the variation in vets fees within a 2 mile radius in Central London...£300 through to £575 for a single tooth extraction!

    How much would YourVets charge stirlo? (includes blood tests as Tim is an old cat, fluids, GA, extraction, antibiotics) and hopw much would YourVets charge for a heart scan?
  • hi lowis - obviously central london vets have to pay central london rents - but a single tooth extraction for a single rooted (front) tooth would be max. £190 with all the trimmings - hard to reach back teeth cost a little bit more -

    and as for heart scans - what kind of heart scan? there's quite a choice!

    thanks stirlo. well he had a heart murmur and they shaved some fur from his side/chest area, i guess did some sort of ultrasound to see if they could find any damage which might be causing the murmur, it cost me £305. (no damage found, so they suspect stiff valves).
