Easyjet cancelled our flight

Myself and my girlfriend (along with 8 family members) went to Malta to get married. We flew from manchester on the 5th October with Easyjet and arrived with only a 3 hour delay. However when we arrived at airport on 19th for the return flight, we discovered to our horror that the flight was cancelled. I spoke to Easyjet Customer Services who said the group had been emailed in April (they did not), and we could wait till the 21st to get back!!!
Because one of our group was unwell we arranged returns with Air Malta (by the way fantastic) but this cost us £2500 for the 8.
On return I wrote to Easyjet asking them why our online details (checked on day of flight) showed flight on 19th and to send us a copy of so called email. Their Customer excellence manager (haha) will not answer these two simple questions and sends a none descript reply offering only original flight money back.
Can anyone help with what I can do to get some compensation

Do a search of these forums, very recently someone was on here with a similar situation to you explaining the legislation they relied upon to get a refund from Easy Jet.0
