Private parking fine
:santa2: Hi all,
I have seen a lot of info bout private parking tickets and just wanted to know if any one has any expereinces: good or bad: of ignoring them.
i understand they are unenforceable but im a bit worried that i'll ignore mine and get a bailiff on my doorstep! I got a ticket one week ago for parking at aldi. I went to aldi but my partner went across the road to some other shops. Apparently this was breaking the rules, as ur not allowed to 'leave the site'. The fine is for 40 quid, but im not paying it out of principle since I spent money in Aldi, thus paying 'my way' as far as im concerned.
Its not like i parked in a disabled bay or incoveniently or any thing
Any stories/ advice?
Cheers, Amanda

No specific ideas but in general terms, I think it is a bad idea to ignore things like this. Write to them refusing to pay given the circumstances outlined in your post.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

If you write to them refusing to pay, then they will have you hooked, and they will write to you using every more flowery language, in more and more bold type, and even on different-coloured paper. They will threaten all kinds of things to try and scare you into paying, quite often treading on thin ice so far as the new consumer regulations go. If you think your constitution is strong enough, by all means write, but at least let them spend £2.50 obtaining the RK's details from the DVLA first.
If you write to "appeal" the ticket, it will be rejected. Because there is no appeals procedure. It simply does not exist.
BTW, you've not been fined. It's just an invoice.0 -

Thanks for reply: what the difference between invoice and fine? apart from Invoice sounds a little less scary lol0 -

An invoice is a request to pay, a fine is an order to pay. One is optional the other isn't.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Only a court can fine you. The police and local authorities can "fine" you, insofar as they can issue you with a penalty. A private company has no authority whatsoever to fine you.
What they have sent you or put on your vehicle is an invoice based on a purported contract between the driver (not RK) and PPC. Really, not scary at all.0
