I have used autoeuropa http://www.autoeuropa.it/en/Prenotazioni/index.asp?lin=en?tipo=10 whenever I've been in Italy. They have by far been the cheapest. I think it was around £300 for two weeks last year for a small car. You are fully insured but the excess is around €750. The excess can be minimised by paying around €150 more for your rental but I've never bothered. The cars have always been new and spotless.0

Will you be staying in Milan or travelling outside of Milan? I live in Milan & wouldn't bother hiring a car if you are staying here. The transport links are excellent, the parking here is apalling & the stress of driving is quite high!
Also, if I was hiring a car here I would pay the extra in order to pay less excess in case of an incident. I've seen many crashes here & it's quite normal to see cars shunting each other to make space for parking!nothing to see here, move along...0 -
hello asea,
do you know anything about how often the transport runs on new years day? i had previously read somewhere that the transport is a bit slack on new year. our flight is at 8:30pm so would like to be at the airport by 7ish.
the reason we were going to get car hire is because there are 6 of us and its only for 3 days and therefore shouldnt work out much more than all of our train tickets etc
we were going to drive from malpenza into milan then leave the car in the hotel for a couple of days then on the last day goto lake como or something before heading to the airport.
thanks0 -
Hi, I'm not sure. The public transport website for Milan is here http://www.atm-mi.it/atm/
I think there's a way of getting google to translate the website but I'm not sure how, sorry!
Am not too sure about NY transport. Are you flying from Malpensa or Linate?
If you are flying from Malpensa you can get the Malpensa Express from Cadorna Station (near the centre). That's about 12 Euros (I think!)
You can go to Lake Como station direct from Cadorna station, it takes about an hour I think & is a pleasant journey. The trains are very cheap here, I can't remember how much we paid when we went to Como but it was definitely less than 10 Euros return!nothing to see here, move along...0 -
I was going to say don't get a car but given the reasons you need it and the amount of people would probably work out cheaper, try searching with Argus Car Hire, used them meself in the past.
Lake Como is gorgeous!2p off is still 2p off!0 -
It is indeed! At the moment it's covered in snow & like a postcard!nothing to see here, move along...0
