All depends how much research you do on the product. I bought my first plasma second hand with no warranty> I'd done lots of research before hand on the actual panel, and was known to be very reliable. I then owned the plasma for a further 2 years before passing it on to my parents who have been using it for the last year with no problem.
All depends on how much research you are willing to do. It is also down to luck a little bit.
However all John Lewis TV's come with 5 years warranty. If you head over to AVforums, there are many MANY people who do not keep TV's for anywhere near that long, so frequently you see TV's with 2/3/4 years warranty remaining.

Does it need any scart or component sockets? How many hdmis? Will you be watching freeview?
not sure what hdmis are, i'd need at least two scart sockets, and would like be able to connect my xbox 360 to it via hd cable. could watch freeview but its not that important if i can or not. thanks for the reply!0 -
HDMI sockets are the sockets needed for HDMI leads which is basically the cable inbetween the XBOX and the tv for HD viewing:idea:0

You will be very hard pushed to get a decent full HD set for this budget. I would much rather have a good 720 or 768 screen than a medicore 1080 one. Your bet bet for the budget could be a second hand Panasonic or Sony, with some warranty left on it.0
