Hello
have had a good look at firewall thread and virus thread and it has got me wondering..
i am :
1- not techie at all so pls forgive any stupidity here
2 - on vista
3 - running spybot and avg
4 - using windows defender
problem :
i am constantly being disconnected from a bt broadband hub during internet use. i am on i.e, but a friend put me on mozilla this weekend. this too is crashing constantly and a pop up flags me that the connection has failed. most times it reconnects itself. i don;t know why all this is happening, both avg and spybot say i am clear of threats. in my stupidity i wondered if it might be as a result of someone hacking the connection? if so i presume i need a better firewall than that of w.def and bthub? if this is correct what do you suggest for vista, spybot and avg?
many thanks for the any advice and best regards to you all

It's not very likely that your connection problems are being caused by someone attacking from outside, and you probably don't need a better firewall - the one in the BT Hub is almost certainly good enough to protect from external threats. If you're particularly worried you could switch on the built-in Windows firewall, or download the free version of ZoneAlarm which is slightly more functional.
You don't say whether you connect to the hub wirelessly or wired. If the former, you may have been unlucky and chosen the same channel as one or more of your neighbours, or you may not have the correct drivers installed on your PC.
Have you tried a wired connection to the hub to see if that is more reliable?0 -
Wireless can be very problematic. My mates laptops built in wireless card was just not upto scratch for example, but ran fine after we used a USB wireless dongle in place of it:idea:0

2) It's Vista. The firewall is enabled by default.0
