virgin mbna credit card restricted for paying in full and on time

Hi everyone

just wondered if any of you have had this experience

we have virgin card, and we use it a lot but always stay within credit limit £3000 and clear the balance each month.

they have just rung me as they are not happy with our usage and they have restricted the card, the balance is £200 on it now.

i understand they are a business and they don't make any interest from us

im just curious how many of you have had the same treatment for using a card regular and paying regular.

~~K~~

i had the mbna vip card (formally mbna whiteroom) for at least 7 years paid in full each month once the initial 0% deal finished (the credit limit in the end was over £6000) never had a problem with them restriting the card. however they have now terminated the card, they are no longer working with livenation so the vip theatre/concert booking credit card is being withdrawn, and whilst other have been offered alternative cards (those i suspect who have earned them money) i have not, i called them the other day and asked what would happen if any of the concerts i had booked etc were cancelled and needed to refund back to the card if it was cancelled, and the lady i spoke to was very surprised that they had not offered me an alternate card as i had had an excellent internal rating with them and never missed payments etc, looks like loyalty doesnt pay, however at the end of the day they are a bussiness and if they arent earning money from us i guess we are not customers who they wished to keep.

  • Hi anna42hmr

they obviously don't want people like us, but we all know the country is heaving with debt ........... not ours obviously

they must be racking it in from people who are struggling.

kinda makes me laugh that they did this, they say you get 50 days interest free..... but they ought to say if you use this too much and p*$£ them off then they stop your card LOL :rotfl:

to be honest, the lady i spoke to offered to do an over the phone application for a new card, but i declined 1. out of principle as they didnt offer me a replacment card in the first place and 2. because it finally gave me a kick up the bum to cancel cards i no longer used, i kept intending to reduce the cards i had (8 at the time) so it kind of did me a favour,

the one negative thing was that you dont realise until you have to change your online account details how many online retailers i used that card on (ticketmaster, amazon, hmv, weightwatchers and so on) which was a pain to change them all, took me the best part of a couple hours to change them to one of my other credit cards (lloyds duo for the airmiles)

made sure to redeem the loyalty points banked up though,

  • I have had a Virgin CC for a few years now. I got it when they had free 0% balance transfers and don't tend to use it for much other then buying things that they discount e.g. Zavvi. I always pay off in full and haven't had any hassle from them - maybe it is yet to come.
