Trouble with Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward Opening

Options
1. When I tried to open it I only got part way through the account opening process, to the screen where it asks for a deposit, then my browser crashed, this was on Saturday.

I logged in again and it was on my online banking with a balance of 0. Phoned Hfax they said it's all OK just make a deposit.

2. But my interest rate is showing as 2.3% gross?! This can't be right?! Is it because I didn't make an initial deposit? It won't let me put any money in it.... but Halifax say it's open :(

3. When I click on the account from 'My Accounts' it says 'Enquiry Only Service' at the top... I found with my ISA and reward savers before this indicates a closed account?

Someone help! What are halifax playing at?

Am still looking for input here if anyone can help!

Also, does anyone have a number for savings applications for Halifax? Online helpdesk apparently put me through to them but all they would say is if it appears online, the account is open, but it clearly has something wrong! They wouldn't even take my account details to check..

A 'closed' account says just that ..... 'closed'. 'Enquiry only' covers a bit of a permutation. If the account is meant to be 'view only' ..... it will have 'enquiry service' - all my fixed rate ISAs show that way.

But in this case it means the account is 'incomplete'. Which can be as simple as the fact it's not funded or, more realistically, in your case ...... that something has gone wrong with the opening process. A reasonable bet if you can't move money to it?

I'm assuming you have the 'qualifying current account' - otherwise you wouldn't have got this far. The interest rate equally suggests a blip in the opening as it would normally show the 'saver' rate of 4.5% (?) initially.

I'm afraid only Halifax can assist as they should be able to see the 'broken bit' and ..... in my experience ..... that should be the online people. Or you could try the number they give for opening this account .... 0845 601 8150

I don't think so ... as the balance is below the minimum of £2500, the lower interest rate is paid.

If it was me, I wouldn't worry about the interest rate (wait until the account has at least £2500 in it, then leave it 24 hours and hopefully that'll sort itself). Presumably you have the sort code and account number? If so, just send a transfer to it. I'd expect that once the account has money in it (+ 24hours for the system to update), it won't be enquiry only.

I tried to set up a payment from my current account but halifax online wouldn't let me as there is something wrong with account!

Also update: the money is now in my guaranteed saver but the rate is still showing as 2.3%. If it doesn't update to 4.5% overnight I will call them.

No, no, no!!! Don't use the 0845 number! Whenever you phone Halifax, always go to http://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/wecancallyou.asp and they'll call you back. FREE!!! Ok, it's supposed to be for new applications, but they'll transfer you through to telephone banking, at no cost to you.

But anyway, glad you've managed to get the money in now :)

Yeah but apparently at 2.3% which appears to be a completely random rate with no mention on their website at all lol

    Thanks for the tip

    Are you under 21?

Sounds like their young savers rate.

Should increase when you go above £2500.
