It depends on the connectivity on your PC and your TV. On a LCD/Plasma TV, the common methods are VGA or DVI and you connect your PC to the TV as you would connect it to a monitor. Some graphics cards have SVHS out which you can connect to a standard TV if it supports SVHS in.
Quite a few new computers come with HDMI but not the budget end. You can add a graphics card with HDMI though.
That Hauppauge unit basically duplicates what you can do with the PS3 as you mentioned.0 -
Xbox 360 + media centre software or zune software.
SlingCatcher looks the best option but it depends on what you wanna spend, but this baby is cool
If you can watch a video on your PC, you can use SlingProjector to project it wirelessly to your TV.

Ive just bought a ATI 4550 with a HDMI socket on for 55 quid off ebay (Which I personally would class as 'budget' for graphics cards):idea:0

Connect your PC to your network (providing you have one), buy a popcorn hour and connect this to your network. The popcorn hour will read all the files you have on your PC and play them on your tv through your choice of connector. It ain't cheap though at £199. It will however play any file you throw at it, which a PS3 will not.0
