Why do I need Adobe Flash?

I wanted to check my account with AOL (although I don't use it much) but it tells me I need Adobe Flash Player. I know it is free but I don't remember that at the beginning it was necessary just to look at my account. Can anyone throw some light on this?

It wouldn't surprise me that in line with other sites, they've introduced a flash based site navigation system. Is there a link anywhere for a non flash version of the site?0

Thank you Conor, I'll have a look. Can't believe the difference with Firefox and I can access my emails on AOL from this browser but not in a form I am used to.0
