credit score/unused credit cards

i read recently that you credit score is affected by the number of credit cards in your name,even though they are not in use.ive always cut my credit cards/store cards up when 0% offer finishes but never rang up to close these accounts

where can i find out all the cards in my name that maybe are still open so i can close these accounts and improve my credit score

you can see what credit accounts are open or settled by getting reports from the credit reference agencies (ie experian or equifax) alternately if you still have the old statements from the cards, you can always call the company up to see if they have closed the account or not
