Refund on lager/beer?

I bought 2 crates of lager from Morrisons at the weekend for £8 each. Its for my husband club as raffle prizes to raise money for charity.
I am kicking myself coz they have just advertised 3 for £18. This must be a new deal so I was wondering if I can return my 2, get a refund and then go back and buy 3 for £18?

Not sure where I stand in terms of refunds on grocery shopping

Thanks

Lisa

I'm sure they'll refund you. Just say you bought the wrong sort. Before you lug them into the call. Phone the morrisons you'll be going to to check and gets the name of the person who agrees the refund.

Hope the raffle raises lots of money.
  • great thanks I'll give them a call. I think it will be worth it if it means we can get another prize of a crate of lager for £2!

I used to work for Morrison's and we were trained to look out for this kind of thing, so you may have trouble getting a refund.

That said, it differs from store to store and you might be lucky enough to find a store that doesn't care :)

  • There is no reason why they wouldn't give you a refund - as long as you have the receipt - after all, if you claim that the goods are not suitable for what they were purchased for (eg, the OH doesn't like that brand), then under the Sales of Goods Act, they are legally obliged to refund your money (or in as much as I understand the act, anyway)

Unless there was something wrong with the product they have no legal reason to refund you. Stores often will refund you out of courtesy, but if they suspect that you are just trying to get a refund so that you can buy the same product at the lower price then they can, and often will, refuse.

We went through a meeting about this in the Morrison's store where I worked.

Personally, I would not call first, I would "lug them in", then haul them to the desk, over emphasize how heavy they are and explain you need a refund.

See, the thing is, stores by law do not have to give refunds,- not unless an item is at fault. So they do it out of goodwill. Hence you need to somehow be in their good books, and having carried in heavy crates of beer, to obtain a refund, it would be in their interest to look like a good company infront of the other customers.

It may also help if you want to exchange rather then just refund- the store don't lose out on sales that way- also in their benefit.

I know its blackmail- I know its wrong, but this is a raffle (for charity?) and morrisons are a big company.

Used to work for a head office customer service, arfabrane, sorry mate;) but unless they changed the rules in the last 6 months, the seller is under no pressure to give a refund to a customer- they do so out of goodwill. Thats how much customers mean to them. (no hard feeling btw I hope- just didn't want ppl to get all confused- know how confusing consumer law is! I still don't get all of it!!)

Nonsense. They were bought for drinking, they are fit for drinking. It is up to the purchaser to know if her OH "likes" them. The store has NO obligation or a refund.
  • They may not have to refund but they might still do it just to keep a customer happy, it's not like 100's of people will be doing it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Let us know how you get on Lisa. I used to be on a PTA type thing whn we did events we never knew how much booze to buy. Mr T has a sale or return policy on booze. So you get a refund no problem.

You could try the call a store and if they say yes get the name if they say no still lug them to the store and hope they look kindly on you.

    Good luck
