Egg

Do Egg normally give instant decisions in relation to Egg Cards or is it the norm to tell you they will let you know within 48 hours?

In the past I have been given an instant decision, and have also had them phone me asking for information (as I have had an Egg card more than once).
  • I'm getting a bit frustrated with them... I have a few accounts with them (Egg Money & Egg Loan) and had an Egg Card with them in the past, which was closed around 14 months ago.

I wanted to apply for a new one, but it was showing that I still had one, they cleared that off and told me to apply, whilst logged in as they had all my details, so I clicked the 'apply' button and it gave me an instant 'Congratulations' and said they would send the CCA out in the post within 10 days.

That passed, heard nothing, so rang, and they said that I needed to apply as a new customer, despite me thinking I'd been accepted. So they messed around with my accounts (hid them) so they could pretend I was new, and then said they would inform me within 48 hours.

Now I am anxious as I thought the card was in the bag... I didn't think they would give me one, not because I have a bad rating, but because I pay no interest at all on my Egg Money and I cost them £200 cashback a year...

Hope they hurry up and let me know so I can reevaluate my options if its a no.

Sometimes the "we'll let you know" message comes up if they can't check your credit history with Experian there and then.

It could be that there's a temporary glitch stopping it from contacting the Experian servers. Or, I'm sure I saw on here recently that sometimes credit checks can't be completed over night for whatever reason.

The quickest way to find out if you've been accepted is to go back onto the Egg website and sign into your account. If you've been accepted it'll bring up the credit card agreement to read through etc.

Also, the old details will have been hidden so only the new card will show up. You'll have to ask them to merge the old and new details. I think you have to wait until the new card has arrived and you've activated it before you ask them. I could be wrong though.
  • They've already merged the 2 'accounts' so that I have my old Egg Money manager back, thank god! I can't cope without it....!

No word from them yet on the application :(
  • Its been over 48 hours will no word from them so I gave them a call tonight and the women said that the application still hasnt gone through and she would hide my account so I can try again.... I told her I have been through all this but she said it wasn't done correctly so the application hasn't gone anywhere and that she will arrange for the accounts to be hidden so I can do it again!

So very frustrating, and if it leads to more than one search on my credit reports I will hit the roof!

Well if you were stupid enough to close in the first place then you deserve all these problems.
  • So closing a credit account is stupid and because I did so, I deserve to have problems?

Careful not to fall from your high horse, it must be a long way down!
