My company has changed our pay day

My company has recently just moved the pay day from the 14th of every month to the 25th of every month.
That meant I got my normal months salary on the 14th of October. Then my next salary payment would be given to me on the 25th of November.
I used to get paid 2 weeks in arrears and 2 weeks in advance. Now they will be paying me 3 weeks in arrears and 1 week in advance. Technically, they are saying I havent lost any money because Im still getting Octobers money in October, but actually, it means Im working nearly an extra 2 weeks with no money, pushing me further into debt and going further into my overdraft.
I just wanted to check if there was any laws against this, or is this perfectly reasonably on the companies behalf? Definitely seems the workforce is getting the raw end of the deal here.

Almost certainly legal (although I suspect if there is a trade union there should have been consultations).
I would be more worried that this implies a cash flow problem for the company that may indicate more severe underlying pressures that will lead to job cuts in the new year, if not sooner.

Sorry if that's not cheerful news. I'd suggest checking all your direct debit dates and moving them back if you can.
Try a week of Tesco (or other supermarket) basic foods and not going out to help catch up with the spending between paydays. Rice and beans - like being in the Jungle!

It is most likely a concession that wages are paid on a particular day, and not a contactual obligation on an employer.
If it is a contractual obligation, it is almost certain that the contract will obtain a provision to amend this.
If it doesn't then there may be a case to challenge.
But if being skint for a week or two makes your job more secure, is it wise to challenge and further destabilise an employer?0 -

If they expect you to work for nothing, I would certainly challenge it, they probably ain't going to be in business for much longer anyway.0 -
Even getting paid on the 25th of the month is earlier than many salaried employees. Unless it's written in your contract that you get paid on the 14th it's legal for them to pay you later in the month.0

You were on a very good deal beforehand, getting paid 2 weeks ahead of time.
Now you are more or less where most other salaried employess are, ie getting paid during the last week of the month.
Whether they can do it, as already posted, depends on what was agreed in the first place, but at least it can't be said to be unreasonable.0 -
When our pay day and system was changed we were given the option of taking a pay advance that we had to pay back over a number of months, it's always worth asking them if you can do this.0

Ok, thanks for getting back to me. I will double check my contract to see what it says in there about it. Just a little hard to swallow right now. Already pushing my overdraft limit as it is...
The company is esentially being regionalised and so they want all the centers to be brought in line with each other. Still leaves me 2 weeks out of poket though.

I would focus on sorting out the undelying problem of having no savings and an overdraft. A full review of all spends.
