Blue badge

HI there
Just a quick query if anyone can help. My hubby is in the middle of completing his DLA forms and am wondering whether he can still apply for a blue badge even though hes not actually been awarded anything as yet??
Can you have a blue badge even though you dont get any disability benefits?

Thanks

Li

  • yes you can ask your local council for the forms then when you have filled them out and sent them back they will request to see your hubby and so long as he meets their criteria for mobility he should be able to get one it can take several weeks though for them to process forms and ask to see hubby, so it may just be worth holding out for dla decision.
    good luck tho x

Definitely yes, although lots of the information is written as if that's not the case. My husband has one but receives no benefits for his condition.

I think it depends on the area, I was told by DIAL that no one in our area gets one without HRM. So I applied at my parents address (I was a student so technically dad's address was still mine). I had to have a physio assessment but I got it no problem.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I am an ancient old codger, so bear with me when I ask what is HRM in this context? My only understanding of HRM is Human Resource Management and it surely isn't that?
  • It means the Higher Rate Mobility component of Disability Living Allowance.

I have a blue badge for the car, even though I do not get any benefits. I qualified because I have
" a permanent and substantial disability which means you cannot walk, or which makes walking very difficult "
