Debit card question

in Credit cards
I opened a basic cash card account with Lloyds TSB and received a Visa Debit card and I have used it twice yesterday on ebay to pay for two items via paypal but the money has not come out of my account yet. Is there some kind of delay when using a debit card or should it be an insant payment process like a credit card?
Thanks in advance for your help.

i sometimes find some debit card payments from lloyds take a day or two to show up. have you got an online account, if so have a look at you available limit, as sometimes that is reduced by the amount that has been "earmarked" but not showing as come out yetMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0

Thanks Anna it was the online banking that confused me cos it was showing the money as still available but when i went to the ATM it said it wasnt so it looks like they dont update the online banking in realtime, unless you are payng money in or withdrawing it yourself.0

Highlight the account you are actually looking at and click on the hyperlink where it says balance - it will give you ledger balance and available balance. Thanks Anna it was the online banking that confused me cos it was showing the money as still available but when i went to the ATM it said it wasnt so it looks like they dont update the online banking in realtime, unless you are payng money in or withdrawing it yourself.
In your case the available balance should be less than the ledger balance by the total of your 2 transactions.
All transactions use the same accounting system so all three channels should give you the same result.0 -

wow ive just noticed where those hyperlinks are it has the word statement, i assumed that was what i was already looking at but im looking at the account overview. Duh!
One thing though it doesnt have the word balance like you said and like the demo shows, so thats strange. Thanks for the info I wouldnt have noticed that I need to actually click on GO when the "statement" link is selected. Cheers man.
At least this statement page tells me the balance and available balance which is what I wanted.
It would be less confusing if they had "choose an option" in that hyperlink window so you are forced to choose where you want to go from the drop down list ten click GO. Its been boggling me for the past 2 weeks lol0
