Ipod Shuffle query

Hi

I know the shuffle and other ipods charge from the computer, but someone told me that I could use a Nokia phone charger to charge the shuffle from the mains - is this correct? (haven't purchased yet, so can't check it out myself!). Or can I purchase a charger separately so that I can charge a shuffle from the mains?

Also, anyone seen an ipod speaker system that also charges the shuffle (through the mains...not just on batteries). Or indeed a speaker system that does not necessarily charge as well, but is on the mains?

Thanks for your help. x

  • You can get mains chargers for the ipod shuffle - but it's not the same as a Nokia charger.

Just make sure you get the correct charger, as there are two versions of the shuffle: the first generation (large rectangular one) or the current, 2nd gen shuffle which is the small square one. Both have main chargers available but each don't work with the other.

Lastly, Griffin sells a dock adaptor for the 2nd gen shuffle which allows you to use it with any standard ipod dock/speaker charging system.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for that.

The USB dock that comes with the shuffle....is that on a lead (ie USB thingy at one end and the silver stick thing that sticks into the shuffle on the other end....sorry to be so technical!!). I've seen some on e-bay that doesn't have a cable - just a small plastic box thing so that it looks like it plugs into the pc rather than dangles on a lead? Which type comes in the box?

I really wanted a speaker system like this

This charges, but only runs on batteries?? Are there any that are like this but run on mains?

Sorry - I'm not very techie.......I appreciate any help. x

That sound system is so small, that I can guarantee you that it will sound terrible, and probably unlistenably quiet.

Its only for my little girl...she had a CD player in her room that has broken, and she really wanted an ipod. I was going to go down the bigger ipod nano route, but I changed my mind. She only listens to Hannah Montana, High School Musical and Mamma Mia so I figured the shuffle at her age (6) was better value really. Then at least she can take it out with her while she goes through the pain of watching her brothers play football:D .

It was only for her room and I didn't want to spend a lot. Is there anything else you think would do?
    Thanks

Personally, I'd go for another brand. iPods are great and all, but it is quite desirable, if you catch my drift. It might attract some unwanted attention, especially as it clips on clothing and is quite visible, even the white headphones let others know what you have in your pocket. They're also pretty expensive, when other brand players are just as reliable and work as well.

If it is just for her room, and iPod is the brand she really wants, it is certainly a great bit of kit.

The charging dock which comes with the shuffle is one of the ones with a USB cable which plugs in to the PC (i.e. the first type you've mentioned above).
