Desktop suitable for games

We're hoping to get a new desktop PC for my daughter for Christmas and she would like to use it mainly to play the Sims 2 game, surf the internet and chat online. She was using our laptop but it couldn't cope with the Sims plus extension packs and kept freezing. I think we need something with a faster graphics card but I don't really know a lot about computers so would appreciate it if anyone could point me towards the type of specification I would need.

do you already have keyboard/mouse/monitor. would you be comfortable building your own?

You can do quite well for that if you build your own. TBH, Sims isn't taxing for even onboard graphics on desktops.

I did look at the PC World site but didn't notice this one-thanks for that! I wouldn't know where to start building a computer up myself. We'd need the monitor, keyboard etc anyway so I think its easier for me to get one "ready made".
