How to cover catflap?

Hi, has anyone got any ideas how to cover up a cat flap?
We have a cat flap in our backdoor from the previous owners, we don't have a cat so we don't need it. Replacing the door is too expensive but there is quite a bit of cold air coming through. I have taped it up from the outside but it doesn't seem to do much good, so is there anything else I can do? The tape has been there since we moved in, I mainly did it to stop my kids trying to climb through
Thanks isica

Hi isica,
As this isn't strictly Old Style I'll move it over to the In My Home board where you should get more help.

May be a piece of foam or similar cut to size and taped in.

If its a PVC door, you can get the panel containing the cat flap replaced. We paid about £80 for a new one...just a flat white one: moulded panels would've cost more. I think there's a possibility if the PVC is quite a few years old that the colour won't exactly match (due to weathering), but ours was only 3 years old and looks great.0

As suggested, you could just try and replace the panel if its uPVC. If its wood you could screw a thin ply sheet (I'm assuming if its wood you've got a top panel and a bottom panel) on the inside panel (or both) and paint or stain the same colour as the door.0

When our cats died and we decided not to get another one we needed to cover up our cat flap.We took off the flap and went to B&Q and got two panels of ply cut to size,to cover the whole panel not just the cat flap.We used no more nails and glued them flush to the inside and outside of the door.It looked as good as new once painted and you would never of known there had been a cat flap there in the first place.
If the doors UPVC perhaps you can get two pieces of that cut to size and do the same with that.0
