HI i want to run a computer cooling fan from the mains for a project.
Can anyone tell me what transformers are available it seems a big job to alter a comp supply unit to run a fan only so a tranny to suit would be ideal.
Cheers

why not just mod a cheap PC PSU? just jump (put a wire between) the green and any black wire on the ATX block, instant life!
google even brings up a guide hereUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

You'll need more than a transformer; case fans are normally 12V but DC, not AC. The power consumption isn't massive, so pretty much any unregulated 12VDC wall wart you can find will probably be adequate. Get the polarity right or you'll end up sucking instead of blowing (or vice versa). There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Just find a 12v adapter, and you're sorted.
Almost all 120mm, 92mm, 80mm and 60mm fans are 12v. You might start finding 5v fans on smaller sizes, but there's not that many of them really.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Maplin or RS, or Farnell will sell you mains fans.
Most 5V or 12V DC fans don't require much current, all available from above too.
Your techie mate probably has a bunch of old wall warts up to the job of DC fans. I know I've got more than I need to keep!0 -
Many thanks to all who replied.

The 120mm fans I have in my computer reach their full RPM at 12v, but you can scale them back to 7v, or even 5v, and they still start at a reduced RPM, they're quite flexibile like that.0
