Hi,
I was returning an electric blanket to Argos, that was given to me as Xmas Present. I have receipt and box was unopened, but they refused claiming that it was linen goods, which like clothing etc cannot be returned..
Can anyone advise if this is the case?

I suggest you phone customer services to clarify and they can phone the store in question if need be.

As alias says check with Argos but I do remember being specifically told that we could not return ours (bought last October) - I guessed it must have been a hygiene issue.

Unfortunately, this is not true.
Every electric underblanket is excluded from Argos' 16 day guarantee - irrespective of it being opened or not.
It's a simple Health and Hygiene issue.
On the website the exclusion is shown in the orange "Addition Information" box on the left hand side of your computer screen when you are on the specific item's page, it is also shown on the e-mailed invoice.
In stores the customer is told this at the till before purchace and it is printed on their receipt underneath the item's catalouge number.

If you query that explanation with them , they may merely refuse a refund on the grounds that as there is no fault with the item they have no legal obligation refund or exchange.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Absolutely correct. I was sure there used to be a small rectangular box at the bottom of the item description with the exclusion message, that's what I was looking for.
My mistake, apologies.Herman - MP for all!0 -
