The commander gaming chair....

I have bee looking at the commander gaming chair in Argos, I have been reading about it and it says that it is not compatible with connecting to HDMI.

Is there anyway of getting round this and connecting it somehow to run it with the HDMI connection set up? We need to connect it to the PS3.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5666700/Trail/searchtext%3EGAMING+CHAIR.htm .............. link for the chair in Argos.

If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated!

  • This gaming chair is not compatible with games consoles connected to a HDTV via a HDMI cable, and is only compatible with games consoles connected via an A/V cable.

Connect it with A/V cables, but you'll lose the ability to run the console in HD.

I expect this is because it requires the red/white audio cables from the games console to be plugged into the chair. HDMI/component converters appear to be available, but that will SEVERELY chop the graphics of your console, and thats if it works at all with the digital-to-analogue conversion. I'd really, really suggest not trying.

If your console can output audio via optical, and if you have an optical device with a headphone socket, you could use that, but no guarantees on the audio quality there.

I wasn't aware that the red/white cables could carry surround sound in 5.1? How about dropping into argos and taking a look at the instruction manual and the inputs on the chair?
    Super geek.
  • Thank you for your help.

I could do but im not actually sure what i have to look for or what connections or wires i need it to have to use it through HD for the PS3?

My boyfriend would know but as it is a christmas present I dont really want him to know.

If not does anyone suggest any that are cumfortable, good and good price? That would run HD/ HDMI or any that are on a stand like that one?

    Thank you, Sam
  • [edit] quick edit after I posted all that, someone has just told me they use the hdmi for TV then the sony AV multi out with a standard component cable (red/white/yellow rca plugs) to hook the sound up, simply turning the tv sound down to zero..... cannot comment if this works or not as I dont have a ps3, also note that some TV's have red/white 'audio out' sockets in which case your sorted [/edit]

Okay Ill tell you what I do with my 360, I use HD component cables, providing your LCD screen has a place for the red/blue/green rca connectors it should work fine and still output in HD, I know you can get these cables for a PS3.

The HD component cable itself has 5/6 rca jacks on, red/blue/green ( video bit) then red/white (sound that go in to the chair or amp) and some have the yellow jack as well (s video - unused in this case).

You plug the red/blue/green plugs into the tv, and the white/red sound jacks in to the chair and your sorted, might need some sort of cable extention kit to make them reach to the chair though.

I cannot tell the difference between using my HDMI /component leads either, but I cant guarantee that other won't be more fussy on this.

As a final note your talking gadgets here and whilst its really nice to get suprises I reckon when it comes to boys toys like this most blokes enjoy being involved in picking them as much as they do using them (or maybe I'm just overly nerdy), I know I would want my counterpart to ask me about something like this first, I know I would quite pumped up knowing I was getting something like this as a pressy which is as good as a suprise really, also it will give you an opportunity to tell him what you want as a pressy :)
  • what a lovely gift i've always fancied one of these but i think my girlfriend would of left me lol
