Losing sleep over a bed....

                    Grrr...
I've been tossing and turning on my old bed, waiting on the sales to start so that I can buy a lovely new bed and stop cutting off the circulation in my arm with the springs on the old one.
Buying a new bed is sooooo confusing.
No two shops have exactly the same model, so price comparisons are just impossible! Finding information and prices online is a nightmare, as the beds all have different names in different shops - even if they are the same thing!
I am tearing my hair out trying to be a good moneysaver...
Martin - you'd be horrified, but I'm thinking of just going into the shop and handing over my hard earned without being sure I've got the best deal, although I have tried...honest!
Does anyone have any tips on how to navigate the opaque pricing and marketing techniques of bed shops?
All advice gratefully appreciated (even in the middle of the night - the dodgy springs are keeping me up;):xmassmile)

If it was easy, everyone would do it!

I would stop shopping around and go for the most comfortable one I could find!
Sleep is important, and I'd rather pay more for something perfect to me than buy the best bargain I could find.
I bought a SilentNight orthapedic matress about 4 years ago. It wasn't cheap, but it's still as flat as the day I got it, and really comfortable. My old bed was a cheap one and it had moulded to my body and was really saggy after a couple of years. Here I go again on my own....0

Agree with Becles. Go to a good bed shop and get some advice about the type of mattress you need and the degree of support you will require. You then need to try the mattresses in the shop based on that advice. Once you have a mattress in mind, take a note of its name and then shop around. When you approach other shops, ask which companies make which mattresses under other names. Do this before you let on that you have particular mattress in mind and have seen it somewhere else. Doing this, you should find out whether the mattress you want is cheaper under a different name or not.0

I would highly recommend you get yourself one of them memory foam mattresses. Myself and the OH bought a new bed with a memory foam & sprung mattress.
The bottom half is springs, the top half is memory foam, in total it's about 14" deep and we bought a king size!
It was difficult to get to sleep on the first night following years of just sprung mattresses but now I wouldn't want to live without it, well worth the extra cost!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0

            Thanks everyone. :xmassmile
I woke up this morning and creaked all over - me that is, not the bed...
Pins and needles in my arm, sore back, springs digging in all over the place. And I've decided today is the day.
 Shopping around is officially over.
Today's the day I buy a new bed - YIPEEEE! :xmassmile
Thanks for telling me exactly what I wanted to hear so that I could just go and buy the thing!;):snow_grinIf it was easy, everyone would do it!0

I agree too, aparently we spend over a 3rd of our lifes in bed (I'm more like half!!) So go for the best you can. I think your supposed to change mattresses every 7yrs or sooner so remember whatever you buy is yours for a few yrs. Go in the shop, lie on one for 15 or 20 minutes if you have too and get the best you can. Had an ex who's bed was sooooo soft after one night in it i could hardly move! Ended up on the floor the following night as i love a firm bed to sleep on0

I need one too - we decided to go for an IKEA one when we next go that way, its a bit of a hassle though as we will have to hire a van!

Careful Sam, check before you buy as IKEA beds tend to come in non-standard sizes!! (Which doesn't matter as long as you are aware of the fact, and might mean that you are stuck with buying their sheets if nothing else will fit) :rudolf:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
