Unfortunately not all those with walking aids need them and this makes it look bad for those who do. I actually know of one woman who uses her crutches when she wants assistance in the supermarket but then will put them under her arm and run to catch the bus afterwards. She had the nerve to tell me once that she couldn't manage without them.

These people make me so angry.

Are you talking about a DLA application?

It is not a case of anyone expecting you to walk any distance, it's about telling the truth about how far you can walk. If you need help filling in the form contact your local Citizens Advice or other Disability help advisors. As they fill in these forms all the time they will be able to help you.

Not as angry as you must make someone with crutches when they read something like this.

Just because you have seen her not need them 100% of the time you have made assumptions she doesn't need them, even when she has told you she can't manage without them.

It's people like you that make life more uncomfortable for aid users by spreading rumours.

I am registered disabled with severe orthopaedic problems I also have a brain tumour. I see this person every time I go into town she has even been seen running to catch the bus. I am not the only one who has commented on her. When you live in a small place you notice these things. If she wants to use them (even though she doesn't actually touch the ground with them but lets them dangle from each arm) that is up to her. But what I object to is people assuming that you are not disabled because you don't have a walking aid all the time.

And as for spreading rumours I don't need to, I saw the same women actually throwing full bin bags to someone else and then say that she was going to do her shopping and that she always got a member of staff to carry her things as she couldn't lift.
