Which credit card ?

Options
Hi, my first post in this forum :xmassmile

I am wanting a credit card and wondered who you would reccomend to get one from.
I do not need to switch companies as I dont own another credit card so who would you advise me to go with.

thanks :xmassmile

edited to add : The credit card would be for emergency usage only, i dont intend running a big bill up. I wondered wether any companies have freebies at the moment to get me to join them.

Thanks again.

    Welcome to MSE!

Follow links in the blue box above to Martin's articles on credit cards. Or use Credit Cards link on the left to the Credit Cards section. Link Articles in the green bar above leads to all articles.

However, for your first credit card it is better to start with the bank you have current account with.

    Hi Eagle1

If you want a credit card for emergencies a standard Nationwide Card would be good for you.

You can select low limits (if they approve you). Its on the online application from £500 to a maximum of what they would let you borrow.

Its also good for overseas use with low charges and this maybe where you would have an emergency.

    Or

Something like a Skycard with no interest charges for the 1st year incase you do use it.

Yes, it is good, but Nationwide is very 'choosy'. Unless you have a current account with Nationwide and good income I wouldn't recommend it as a first card (while you have no credit history).

I prefer to use the capital one circle for my spending, 1% cashback... though not sure what the cashback is on the latest.

An alternative is the sainsburies cashback card.
