Added password to Windows and screen resolution changed...

I added a password to my Windows login (through Control Panel> User Accounts>Create Password).
However, when I rebooted the machine and logged on (using new password), the screen resolution suddenly changed for no known reason...everything looks bigger!
I have tried restoring the resolution but no setting seems to return it to normal.
Any idea why? Is this another PC annoyance?!
Thanks
