My father has decided he wants a computer, so has anyone seen any good deals recently? It would be nice to have word and excel, but not essential and the ability to play some of the newer pc games. (Sorry I don't have any spec details as I'm not technically minded
)
Thanks for any advice/reccomendations.

Hi, its very difficult to recommend a PC without knowing exactly what it will be used for. But some good places to start are:

I love Mesh. http://www.meshcomputers.com/
and https://www.savastore.co.uk
I am sure the list will grow as people read this thread, so good luck.0 -

Thanks Windym and ukbill69,
As its his first computer ever, we wanted something fast enough to play games, to use the internet and to teach him how to use word and excel. It doesn't have to be anything ultra fast, just something to get him started.
Thanks for those links and the advice!
Best wishes

Just tried to make an order on mesh and found out that the delivery cost 45 pounds!!!! thats damn expensive so i decided not to go through with it.
So the dell sale started today, but I can't find any outstanding offers, can anyone post any good links for extremely good value for money computers (possibly from the new dell sale)...0 -
DO you have the names of any of the games he wants to play? Because if they are really up to the moment shoot-em-ups he WILL need a high spec computer. (Sorry about this).
If it's true he needs a high spec computer your best bet might be to get one from Netto, Lidl or Aldi. All 3 of these supermarkets often do computers, and I saw one in Netto just b4 Xmas. They tend to be higher spec for the money than most other places.
But if when you post the names of games they turn out to be less demanding of resources, your dad will be able to use quite a low spec machineEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Thanks Bill!
Jobbingmusician, to be honest he didn't have any particular games in mind- I suppose he would he happy enough to play older games anyway. So perhaps it really isn't a high spec that we need. What he had in mind was just something that would last him a couple of years while he 'learns'.
I'll have a look for a P4 with 1gb ram- thanks for all your help!July Win: Nokia 58000 -
Plenty of possibilities of Dell systems for under £500. Check out the following sites for some of the latest deals:

A friend of mine bought from JAL computers last year. Delivery was slow but the price and spec were pretty good, he was very happy. He went for the Jal Jenny at £399, changed spec to a DVD writer and got it for around £420 as they were doing free delivery. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0 -
