I would agree sounds like the car is worth £1200. It is still the same thing whether you are buying new or used. The extra £800 is your discount off of list price.

with the car sales market being dead at the moment, rather than the manufacturers offering greater discounts to the dealerships, they have actually reduced support, and just stopped producing cars, until the ones that are already built have been sold. means most dealerships are now limited in what they can offer customers, and the waiting times are totally stupid. Some models, we cant even take orders on, as we dont even have a date for them to resume the manufacture

most new car dealers now cant give a p/x price for a car, until they know they have a trader willing to take the car off their hands, and the price they are willing to pay. So its making it hard for dealerships to do an on the spot deal, if they dont know whether your p/x can realistically be sold on. Glasses guide prices are changing so often, and dont match up to what the traders are prepared to pay, so to most dealers now, the guides are useless. we can use them as a very rough guide, but in all reality, the prices just dont match up, and were not gonna agree to a deal until we know whether we can break even, let alone make some profit

as said above, the difference in p/x prices you are given, is the discount you are being offered off list price. Tbh, i think your car has been overvalued, as i know of no dealer that would be interested in a car with that mileage, at that price. At auction you would be lucky to get a few £100 for it.

If its still running, and not costing too much to repair, i would stick with it, and buy another car once it has died

  • Used car sales in my area are doing as well as they always have, if not a little bit better because people are slightly put off with buying new with the 'state the country is in'. And thats not because 'i heard it from a friend of a friend who has a cousin..blah blah' ive spoken to a few car dealers and they all say the same.

New car dealers are feeling it a bit though.

However, we are in the run up to christmas, so for any car dealer, new or used, its not a great time to be taking on part exchanges. The best thing you can ever do is sell the car privately. Do your research and see what its worth, look on autotrader, ebay and where ever else to get a realistic valuation.

Ebay can be a pain, but when it works its very easy to sell on. No one ever really comes to look at the car, and if they do they usually want a private sale...which is better as theres no ebay commision or fees!

Like another poster has stated, you know the car, and 100k on a diesel, even peugeot, isnt a big amount.
If it runs good now and has been well serviced then keep it for a bit, i wish i had a reliable car at the moment!
