hi i employed the services of a tree cutter in nov 2007, i had a quote and the price said £xxx.xx vat, now on my understanding this would include the vat as it actually does not state either way.
The thing that annoys most is that it is now november 2008 and we have just received the bill does anyone know the legallity of this.
is there not a time limit on demanding payment after so long, i suppose its all down to how the contract is deemed.
thanks for your help

Was it £100 + VAT or £100 incl. VAT?hi i employed the services of a tree cutter in nov 2007, i had a quote and the price said £xxx.xx vat, now on my understanding this would include the vat as it actually does not state either way.

If its the first one you owe vat on it. if its from the tree cutter I'd personally ignore it, shouldn't he have said you still owe ££0 -
is the bill he same as the quote? when was the work started and finished? I would assume the quote was given prior to commencement of work.
Am guessing the bill that you have now received has vat added on top of the quote, although if you were unsure at the time if it was included or not i'm not sure why you didn't query it before approving the work?0 -

also bear in mind you've had the £100 for a year, so you've had the benefit of that.
£100 now is worth less than it was a year ago.
seems like he just forgot the + sign on the quote.
write a cheque to the company name and not the individual name, also just confirm his VAT reg number.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
thanks for the reply ok the quote was in june 2007 and the price said vat not plus, inc or anyting. as far as we are concerned it was the total price. the work was carried out in nov 2007 and the bill was sent in nov 2008 with total plus vat. the other thing is that the contract was between the tree cutting service and my father and he no longer lives at the address. where are we legally thanks0

If the bill was not for you return to sender, not known at this address.
Does the treecutter know it was your father?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
