Xbox Live on Ntl - Crossover Cable

Hi,

I am trying to set up Xbox Live on an xbox right next to my main computer, with ntl set top box broadband. I have tried plugging the ethernet cable staright into the xbox from the set top box but it didn't work so I phoned Ntl and they said it needs to go through a computer first. So, I know I could get a router but that is expensive so would it work if I bought this crossover cable >>here<< for Xbox live. Also how would I connect this up?

you could just buy a straight thru cable and buy a crossover adapter. you then have the best of both world's

my Xbox connects to my router (im on adsl not cable).

buy a length of cable and a crossover adapter and try your xbox before you spend loads of cash buying things you may not need
