in Credit cards
So hi everyone hopeing some one can help me out a little bit here had a capital 1 card for about 4 years now ive allways payed on time so was quite shocked when i received a letter through the post saying ive missed a payment .So i phoned then up and the just totaly confused me with dates so i payed 2 monthes as my next month was due .
A couple weeks later i thought better check i cant beleve i missed payment so i checked and every thing was there my due payment date is the 25th every month ive allways payed it an the start of the month trying to be early so its done and i wont forget.
So i phoned up and asked which month i missed i was told it was october hmm payed oct online on the 3rd she told me this was to early ? what, i told here to look at every other moth i pay about the same time give or take a day or two she also told me if you pay online it takes 5-6 days to clear BUT the payment i made on the 3rd cleared on the 4th? so was to ealry sorry but i was to angry and couldent get any sense out of her she said no managers there to day .
Is this right did i pay to early ? if so why charge me now and not before? any help advice would be very appreciated sorry for writing so much thanks everyone who read it cheers JOE

Has your bank adopted faster payments?
If so the 3-4 days you used to have to wait for a payment to arrive at its destination will have been reduced to same day (or next business day) and could well have led to you paying earlier than usual.
Unfortunately this is nothing to do with Capital One - to them, you have missed a payment and they have charged you as per their t&cs. However, if you are a first offender they may refund you if you are nice to them.
You need to make one payment per statement period.0 -
Yes but like i said the payment was still made in oct, the payment was due for 25th of oct i payed on the 3rd whats the prob its in the right month its not after the 25th ?0

Your payment needs to clear onto the account between the (day after?) statement date and the payment due date. Did it?0

Oooh what a crock i guess not i allways thought i could pay as soon as the month started just another scam if you ask me charging someone cos they give you money a day early lol 4years i keep my credit rating perfect and then i get a bad mark for paying a day early every thing about this SUCKS booohooo0

If you paid before your October statement was issued, you are paying off September's balance, not your October statement balance.0

hi i have a capital one card too, have you not asked them to direct debit the full amount each month? I did on the phone and have sent them a message on the computer to confirm, that way if they do !!!! up then I have proof that I have told them that I wish to have the full amount taken, theres nothing more annoying than being charged when it could have been perfectly easily avoided i think0

At the very least you could set up a direct debit for the minimum payment so you will never get charged a late payment fee.0

Regarding your charge. It all sounds like rubbish to me, as you say if they didn't charge before then why now and if you made the payment early what is their problem? Tell them you no longer want the card, contact the ombudsman immediately, writing might help, it is cheaper than ringing 0845. I haven't much experience of this really but they get away with what they do because they can, so don't let them. I have a lot of experience & money returned by bringing in the ombudsman, and by writing & going over people's heads. The attitude of some of these companies is atrocious. Hope you sort it out:T0
