Monitor Flickers after XP reinstallation

Hello, I have just reinstalled windows XP on my PC as I am selling the computer. Having done this, the monitor is flickering very badly. So much so that it is difficult to even use. I've tried connecting to the internet to see if there are drivers I need for the graphics card but that's not working. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? I'm happy to start the reformat again.

Cheers,

Lenny.

    but that's not working.

Do you mean that you got the correct drivers for your graphics card and installed them but it didn't help, or you couldn't get them?

Have you tried Display Properties, Settings, Advanced and reduced the refresh rate, or tried reducing the display resolution to see if that helps?
  • The refresh rate was set at 95. I just tried to reduce it to 75 but the monitor has stopped working completely.

I'm pretty sure the monitor works though as I connected my laptop up to it and it worked fine. Also, the monitor worked before the reinstallation.

To answer your question about drivers, I haven't reinstalled the specific drivers. It is currently using whatever the default ones are in Windows. I thought if I connected to the internet, the PC would search for the best drivers available. Would I be best off looking for the exact drivers online?

    In a word, yes.

IIRC the auto search only finds the ones that MS has, which can be out of date or "generic".

If the monitor is an LCD, a refresh rate above 60Hz is probably too high - they are much more sensitive to this than CRT monitors.
  • The windows drivers won't cut it.

Your best bet is to install the drivers specific to your card.

Do you know what card it is?
    Dave.
  • It is an Sis 315 E32 mb

I've just downloaded the driver from here:

    Hope it works.
