Mouse settings return to default every day

I have a Microsoft comfort 3000 mouse with programable buttons. I assigned a function to each of the buttons and used it for about 10 months with no problem, but recently each button has returned to its default setting. I can reprogramme the buttons and they work fine for one day but after I have turned the computer off the whole process starts again. I do "apply" and "save " my new settings, but what else do I need to do to make these changes permanent

Pop over to microsoft.com/downloads and download the new Intellipoint drivers. I think that they're on version 7.2 now.0
