No LAN on desktop

I have a friend who asked me to look at their Inspiron 530 (running Vista) as they could no longer connect to the internet after the pc crashed and their husband then tried to fix it.
When I looked at their pc there was no LAN showing, or any type of network at all, and the pc wasn't picking up that a modem was plugged in. When I plugged the modem into my laptop I could connect to the internet without problem, and also connect wirelessly via my iPhone. This made me think it was the Dell and not the modem.
When I went into the device manager there were only WAN under network adapters, and there was a yellow exclamation mark next to the ethernet driver under the network card. Do I need to reinstall the ethernet driver?
Can anyone advise what to do next? Many thanks.

Use Unknown Devices or Unknown Device Identifier to get the details of the missing driver if you don't already have it on disc.0

Ignore the above...
Go to https://www.dell.com and the support section. Enter the Asset tag number on the bottom and go to the driver download page.0
